What Is a Dental Veneer?
A veneer is a thin shell made from porcelain or ceramic. Its shade, shape, and size are matched to your surrounding teeth so it blends in seamlessly rather than standing out as obvious dental work.
How a Veneer Is Used
Placed over the teeth, veneers can close gaps, even out tooth length, and cover dark stains — creating a uniform look. Many well-known smiles have been created this way; you don't need to be famous to get the same result, just a consultation.
Veneers are also used restoratively: when a tooth becomes cracked, chipped, or broken, a veneer can restore both its appearance and full functionality, as long as the underlying tooth structure is intact.
The Procedure
We start by taking an impression so the veneers can be custom-made in a lab, which typically takes a week or more. Dr. Jai then prepares your tooth by removing a portion of the enamel so the veneer lies flat and flush with your gumline. A temporary veneer is secured with removable glue in the meantime — brush gently and avoid foods that could dislodge it, since the glue is designed to release easily.
When your permanent veneers are ready, the temporary is removed and the new veneer is checked for fit, usually attached first with a water-based solution so you can see how it looks before anything is finalized. Any adjustments happen at this stage. Once everything looks right, the tooth is cleaned and the veneer is permanently bonded — with results you can start showing off immediately.
After the Procedure
Some soreness is normal for a few days after both the prep and the final placement. Pain medication, rest, and a cold compress for swelling all help. Stick to soft foods for a few days — the short recovery period is worth it for the final result.

The process runs several weeks, so you'll need to be careful about diet and activity in the meantime — this isn't the week to play contact sports right after getting temporary veneers placed. Plan the timing so you can take it easy near home.
