What Are Dental Crowns And Bridges? A Complete Guide

What Are Dental Crowns And Bridges?

Dental crowns and bridges are two options for replacing lost teeth; these are two of the most convenient ways to replace lost teeth, and we’ll look at what these are and what a dental crown process comprises in this article.

What Is a Dental Crown?

Dentists use a cap, or cover, to cover a tooth. Dental crowns restore the tooth’s size, form, and function in the issue. Crowns can also strengthen and improve the appearance of your teeth. You may need a crown for various reasons, including cavities too large for fillings, cracked or worn teeth, root canal treatment, or concealing a poorly shaped or discolored tooth and improving your look.

Ceramics, metal alloys, porcelain, porcelain bonded to metal, and composite resin are all options for dental crowns. Whatever material is used, it will most likely be tinted to match the color of your natural teeth.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge consists of two or more dental crowns on either side of a missing tooth with an artificial tooth called pontics(or teeth). Pontics are a form of artificial tooth that can be manufactured of various materials, including metals, porcelain, gold, or a mix. A dental bridge does exactly what its name implies: it fills the gap left by a lost tooth or teeth. These dental bridges get support from remaining natural teeth or implants.

Procedure For Dental Crowns And Bridges

Crown placement is a straightforward process. The first appointment is for planning the treatment and preparation. An x-ray will be obtained, and an imprint of the tooth will be made. On the first visit, the dentist gives an anesthetic shot to numb your tooth and gums, then the tooth on which crown to be placed is reduced. The impression of teeth and jaws is made. The crown will be placed on the second visit. The crown can be put on the same day if the dentist uses a digital model called a wand to create 3D representations of the tooth.

Dental bridges are the same way. The initial visit to the dentist is for tooth preparation and temporary bridge placement. The permanent bridge will need to be installed at a later date. After the treatment, it’s essential to take care of your bridge, and it’s a good idea to contact your dentist for follow-up appointments to ensure everything is working well.

Durability Of Crowns And Bridges

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth, whereas crowns are used to repair teeth that are damaged. Your dentist will use crowns on filed-down teeth or dental implants at the edges of your missing teeth to make a bridge. Pontics are teeth filling the gaps between the caps where teeth are missing.

With dental crowns, you may pick from various materials for your bridge. Your dentist is in the best position to assist you in selecting the best material for your needs. However, it would be best to consider various factors, including the tooth’s visibility, cost, strength, and attractiveness. If you want emergency treatment, search for dental crowns near me, and we will help you out.

Dr. Jai is so wonderful as are all of his assistants and receptionists. They always encourage me to let them know if I have any questions or issues during the cleanings. I have what’s called ‘groovy’ teeth so getting cavities was something I knew often. Since coming here I’ve had less to no issues with my teeth and always come out sparkly clean. Healthy Smiles of Georgia really cares about the patient/ client and I recommend you come here :)!

I had started having pain in my right wisdom tooth. I thought it would go away with time & waited for about a week, but on Saturday, when I couldn't tolerate it at all, I made a call to Dr. Jai’s office and got lucky that they saw me on the same day. It came out that I had a cavity on my right side molar. My visits with Dr. Jai & his staff (Victoria & Amisha) were pleasant & satisfying. I would suggest visiting him because he is passionate about his work and serves you best.

The overall experience was quite pleasant. The dentist has never been a particularly favorite place of mine but the staff made it much less stressful. Would highly recommend.
